Thirsty Traveler’s Tour: Intent and Suggestions

by davidmcguffin on April 21, 2009

The intent of the “Thirsty Travelers Tour” is to visit regions famous for their production of “the local stuff.”  Don’t get the wrong idea here, I’m not promoting a “drink your way through Europe” experience, I’ll leave that for the backpacking youngsters. My goal is to weave together a tour touching on the historical, cultural, culinary and scenic aspects of our destinations.  Believe me, good food and drink played an important role in my selection of destinations, but there’s a lot more see and experience.

Let me forewarn you there is a lot of traveling involved. This is unlike any tour I have ever planned. Instead of traveling by bus from one location to the other, we will do a fair amount of air travel laced together with private bus touring. It is the only way I could keep to my “thirsty” theme and include my chosen destinations. If you are thinking about traveling with us, you should consider several things. First, everyone must PACK LIGHT. That means bringing only a carry-on sized piece of luggage in addition to a big purse, backpack or daybag. Secondly, you have to be flexible because sometimes the best-laid plans don’t always work. Thirdly, we’ll do a fair amount of walking each day, consequently you should be in relatively good shape and able to walk several miles each day.

Stay tuned for destination #2.  In the meantime, why don’t you sign up for my weekly “Thirsty” News.
